Monday night update...

I handed in my two descriptions of my topics for the written exam, which will take place on December 4th and then I have to hand in 25 pages on December 12th. So with that out of the way I only have to prepare a 5 pages synopsis for my oral exam in January. I have to hand it in on December 15th, so I’m pretty stressed about that right now. But I’m taking it day by day, and hopefully I’ll make it.

I took a few hours off today to do something for myself – so here I am with a new haircut and a different hair colour. It was nice to relax for a few hours.

Cathrine is just finding out that she’s got a will of her own, which of course is great… if only I hadn’t been stressed out about everything else. It’s impossible to get her to sleep… Right now we are dealing with problems we’ve never had to deal with before, because until now she’s been a complete angel. And now she’s just a more determined angel.

Monday Morning Update

Cathrine got inflammation of the middle ear last week, and had to get the inflammation sucked out. It was horrible, because she had a high fever, wouldn’t eat, and cried all night because she was in pain. You feel so helpless, we contacted the doctor, got some penicillin (which didn’t work), called the doctor again, she took a second look at C, and vaguely suggested that we went to see an ear specialist. Thank God we did that. He was amazing. The fever was gone in a couple of hours, and she’s pretty much back to being our happy Cathrine again.

Cathrine’s great-grandmother turned 81 yesterday, and we were all there to celebrate her. Great-grandmother was so pleased that Cathrine was well enough to visit after all.

I have a hard week ahead of me. I have to finish two synopses, read a huge pile of books, meet with the other mothers in my group, get together with a few friends and so much more.

it's been ages....

I've been neglecting this blog for way too long. I actually miss blogging to tell you the truth. I'm really busy with preparations for one written exam (December 2006) and one oral exam (January 2007) and on top of that I'm trying to write my MA thesis (due date May 15th 2007 - if I manage to write the damn thing) and be a good mother. So no wonder I'm stressed out at the moment. I hope things will look a little brighter 2 weeks from now. I'm really trying to get things done while Cathrine is in day-care and then be there for her 100% when she gets home.

Fortunately, I still have time to enjoy life. Being a mother is amazing. I love to just watch her at night when she's asleep in her room - she's so peaceful and so cute. And playing with her is a joy. She took her first 3 steps the other day - she'll be walking before Christmas that's for sure.

P and I had our first extended weekend away from Cathrine during the mid-term holiday. We went to Copenhagen and stayed at a pretty good hotel called The Square. It was great to get away for a few days (even though I was struggling with a terrible cold the whole time) but also wonderful to get back home again.

Well, I'd better get started... I have two meetings with my supervisors this week.

first night away

Tonight will be my first night away from Cathrine. I'm going to sleep at a friend's house and going to enjoy a night out with friends. Cathrine has just finished her first week of child-minding... she's such an easy kid. It seems like she's enjoying it and so are we. I've been working on my thesis all week without feeling guilty.

what a day....

You think you know who you are. You have no idea....

Live your life at the point of impact

Moving at the speed of life, we are bound to collide with each other. - Crash (2004)

What an amazing movie....

Other than that my daughter crawled for the very first time today... and she's only 6½ months old... that's amazing... isn't it???.....

"I wonder...

... if my father ever drove by, [...] if he thought about us at all, or whether he was content to have his three children out there in the world, all grown up, and strangers." - Jennifer Weiner's Good in Bed (2001)

I wonder how my father feels... having his daughter out here in the world, all grown up and a complete stranger for the last 20 years... even though we now live in the same city.....

It's funny how life sometimes turns out

Interesting....

"Get a life. Face your problems. Talk to your mother. Figure out what she did to screw you up. Start over and stop whining. Get out of your bathtub and do something."  - Jennifer Kaufman

I'm amazed...

Fritz Hansen furniture should be ashamed.... We got our 4 black lacquer Arne Jacobsen chairs, but then discovered that the 'painting' or spraying of the chairs was absolutely horrible. I am well aware that everything is done by machines nowadays, but to sell chairs that are not painted properly underneath is unacceptable to me. We're not talking about second grading chairs here. We are talking about the chairs they refer to as their "flagship of Fritz Hansen's collection." If that is the case why don't you live up to this "exclusive designer furniture" image of yours and treat the furniture with the respect they deserve, instead of this sloppiness. Your company should prove that even though products are mass-produced you are able to produce EXCLUSIVE designer furniture without compromise.

Breastfeeding

Last night was the last time I breastfed Cathrine. She was not as content as she used to be after breastfeeding, so I decided to end it. She is perfectly happy with solids and a bottle. And after all she is 5½ month old and will be eating dairy products in a few weeks anyway... so it won't harm her in any way. In a way I'm glad that she turned my breast down before I decided to stop... that way I won't feel that I deprived her of something.

I'm going to get a haircut today, it's nice to freshen up and feel like a 'normal' human being again.

Anyway, right now is my thesis time - so I should start reading and writing...
